Harvest Host Review: High Plains Barbecue, Wytheville, Virginia

June 1, 2024

Nestled on Lee Highway in Wytheville, Virginia is a unique barbecue joint with a fun Clint Eastwood, old western feel, called High Plains Barbecue, which also serves as a Harvest Host. We stumbled across this restaurant when planning our Cross Country RV Trip and thought it would be a great stop for dinner and an overnight stay.

It’s easy to get to off the highway with lots of room for our 22 foot Airstream, LJ. Our dogs enjoyed the wide open space for walking and I sure they also enjoyed the smell of smoked beef cooking nearby. This restaurant seems heavily visited as when we arrived the brisket dinner was already sold out, which means the food would be delicious! We enjoyed the pulled beef with slaw and potatoes and a mac and cheese with pulled beef cup. The beers were cold and the koozies were cute so I made sure to get one to remember the experience years from now.

The owner of the restaurant was very attentive and showed us where to park. Later, he stopped by our campsite to let us know how to get out of the gate without any problems if we left early in the morning. The service was awesome overall with lots of southern hospitality to welcome you.

Wytheville, Virginia is close to the North Carolina border and was on our way to West Virginia. High Plains Barbecue was a perfect stop for a one night stay as we traveled to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
